The posts don't live here anymore.....

Hey y'all. It's been a very long time since I posted here. I feel like I need to clean house a little on this blog, so in the meantime check out http://inkfromquill.blogspot.com for new posts. It used to be protected, but I took down the security so anyone with a blogger account should be able to get in.

It Has Been a LOOOOONG Time

I've decided to take up blogging again. Interesting, I know. Facebook just doesn't provide the space necessary to share one's thoughts with others. Here is my thought for today:

Why are "great works of literature" so great? I mean they were after all written over 100 years ago, aren't they a bit out of date? And what's with the stories? Dante's Inferno, Beowulf, all of Shakespeare's plays, how do they apply today and why do we still read them?

The answer is because they are timeless. You hear that word used a lot "diamonds are timeless" "this is a timeless classic" but what does it mean? It means that it us great regardless of the time period. If Inferno was a great work in the 1500's it can still be in the 2000's. The themes of these books are topics that will never stop "trending", will never get old, and will never go out of style. Dante's Commedia (Inferno, Purgatorio, & Paradiso) all talk about life after death and punishment for sin. You'd be hard pressed to fin someone who didn't think about that regardless of their worldview.

These books are timeless because the issues in the book are the issues of today.

If anyone reading would like to talk to me about my view on any classic literature I have read please feel free to do so.

Whoa...been a while, huh?

Wow. It's been a LONG time. Well, I haven't been up to too much, but I have read some great Classics this year for ToG. I really liked the Odyssey and I encourage anyone who is willing to read it to give it a shot! I also really enjoyed Julius Caesar, my first Shakespeare. Well, since I have a facebook now, the ol' blog won't be used as much, but I'll chime in from time to time.
Well, I'll see y'all alter, bye!

The Journey

Here's my attempt at writing a poem.
I

If I began a journey,
Very long ago,
Would I reach the end,
I do not really know.
I
Would I take a trip,
On the ocean far.
Or would I be in space,
Among the moon and the stars.
I
I might travel many years,
Or travel through time.
The places that I journey to,
May not even rhyme.
I
After many long years,
When my journey finally ends,
I may have forgotten many thing,
But surely not my friends.

You are most like Aragorn. You have strong convictions and you stick to them. Although you are more of a recluse, you are extremely loyal to the few friends that you have. You are very serious about things, but you like having fun. Fame and fortune mean little to you, and you aren't concerned with being popular. Good for you!
